Riverwalk Academy proudly celebrates the exceptional achievements of its cross country teams at the South Carolina 1A State Cross Country Championships. The Boys Cross Country Team claimed the State Championship, and the Girls Team earned the honor of First Runners-Up, showcasing an unforgettable season defined by dedication, resilience, and teamwork.
The boys’ team, led by Head Coach Mark Wilson, delivered a stellar performance to secure the first state championship in the program’s history. Meanwhile, the girls’ team, under the guidance of Head Coach Tessa Wilson, demonstrated incredible grit and determination, earning their spot as First Runners-Up. These remarkable accomplishments highlight the strength and unity of Riverwalk Academy's athletic program.
Dr. Robert Compton, Head of School of Riverwalk Academy, shared his pride in both teams, stating:

Mark Wilson, Boys Cross Country Head Coach, praised his team’s focus on core values:
"The boys adhered to our core values all season long, trusting in the process, themselves, and their teammates. They were empowered to create their own success stories—crafting practice plans, building self-confidence, prioritizing the team, taking ownership, and embracing the value of hard work. These boys have developed a proven formula for success, and I couldn't be prouder of how they represent themselves and Riverwalk with PRIDE."
Tessa Wilson, Girls Cross Country Head Coach, reflected on her team’s journey:
"Our girls consistently exceeded expectations, setting new personal records at every turn. They’ve embraced a positive and supportive team culture that has fueled their success. Before each race, the girls huddle together, symbolizing their unity and shared goals. Balancing hard work with enjoyment has been key to their journey. From underdogs to contenders, our fifth-seeded team stormed into the state finals and earned the runner-up spot. I'm truly honored to coach this incredible group of athletes."
