Special Election Process

Riverwalk Academy has contracted with the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina (PCSASC)  to administer this year’s appointment and election process. This ensures integrity and confidentiality  in the process. The governing board consists of 4 appointed members and 5 elected members. There  is currently 1 vacant unexpired seat up for election, which will expire on 6/30/2022.  

Timeline 

September 30th, 2021: Call for Candidates will be distributed to the public. Each prospective board  member must complete an online filing form. PCSASC will have these available online for  submission/distribution. Links will be created from Riverwalk Academy’s site.

October 8th, 2021: Close of candidate filing period. Acceptance of candidate filings will be closed at  12pm (Noon) EDT. 

October 11th, 2021: Election candidate information and form answers will be posted online.  

October 13th- 14th, 2021: Voting open with e-ballot links emailed to each parent/guardian and  employee of Riverwalk Academy. Voting will open on October 13th, 2021 at 8am and close on October 14th, 2021 at 5pm. There is one vote per child enrolled in the school and one vote per employee.  Voting will be available via e-ballot allowing parents and employees to vote via the internet. Each  ballot will have a unique pin number to ensure confidentiality and integrity of the process. Computers  be available at the school during normal school hours for those that may need additional assistance  voting.  

October 18th, 2021: Election results will be certified and announced publicly. 

October 19th, 2021: The newly elected board member will be sworn in during the October Board  Meeting. This will complete the election process.  

Meeting and Training Requirements 

Riverwalk Academy Board Members are required to attend all board meetings. 

Mandated Board Training – Per state law, all board members are required to attend board training  within 1 year of being elected. Free trainings will be offered by the South Carolina Department of  Education.
