Mr. Anthony Ferraro, social media star and the subject of the 2017 documentary A Shot in the Dark, will give the commencement address at Riverwalk Academy’s inaugural graduation ceremony.
Despite being born blind, Mr. Anthony Ferraro has spent his life overcoming obstacles and finding ways to achieve the impossible. The 2017 film, A Shot in the Dark, documents Anthony’s attempt to win the New Jersey State Wrestling Championships before the end of his senior year of high school.
Now as an adult, Anthony hasn’t stopped dreaming, nor has he let his blindness stop him from pursuing even more advantageous goals. Because of his success on the wrestling mat, Anthony has been invited by US Paralympics to compete for a spot on the 2024 judo team.
As if that wasn’t enough, Anthony enjoys skateboarding, is a musician, and he just released his first single.
“I’ve thought long and hard about who should come give our inaugural commencement address and once I learned more about Anthony Ferraro, I knew he’d be perfect,” said Dr. Robert Compton, Head of School at Riverwalk Academy. “This is the inaugural senior class and they put their faith and trust into our school and into myself. The path for our seniors was not without obstacles and setbacks. However, we persevered. I believe the students are going to immediately feel a connection with Anthony and his words are not only going to validate their experiences thus far, but are going to help them succeed with their future endeavors.”
Riverwalk Academy's inaugural graduation will be on May 26, 2022 at 6:30 pm, and it will be held at the Rock Hill Events Center.
