Riverwalk Academy is excited to announce David Dawson as the new Head Coach for the Boys Basketball team. David is coming to us from C. A. Johnson high school as a former assistant athletic director and basketball coach. In addition to coaching, Coach Dawson will also teach middle school career and technical education courses.
“My mission, as a coach, is to teach life through the game of basketball. The vision of this program is to help each student-athlete grow and develop as a person, student, and athlete. Winning is very important to me. I wouldn’t be a good coach if it wasn’t. However, winning and success are not necessarily synonymous in my book. Success goes much deeper than just the scoreboard,” says Coach Dawson.
During his time as assistant athletic director at C. A. Johnson, Coach Dawson led the operations of the football and basketball games. He currently serves as the Director and Coach of the Capital City Vipers, a competitive travel organization for basketball and football. His previous experiences include Head Girls Varsity Coach at North Central High school and Head Boys Basketball Coach at Indian Land Middle School where his team was School District Runner-Up.
“Mr. Dawson comes to us with many years of experience as a basketball coach and has done a lot to develop athletics in years past. He has a passion to teach the game and to help shape the lives of our student athletes. With his knowledge and commitment, he will continue to build our growing program. I am very excited to have him join our coaching staff, “ said Tessa Wilson, athletic director for Riverwalk Academy.
